The two sides were evenly matched on grading therefore no handicap adjustment to the result was required.

Leo Ainsworth won convincingly against Steve Lamb in his first game but this was matched by Mike Parker's win on time against Lynn Morrison after a close game.  The other two games were drawn so the half-time score stood at 2-2.

In the second half, John Cooper had the advantage against Andy Jaques but was lucky to win in the end because of an error.  Steve Lamb came back with a win against Leo and the impressive David Gillespie won quickly against Phil Copeland.  Lynn Morrison had extra pawns in a good position against Mike Parker but was unable to convert this to a win because of time pressure and a series of harrassing checks which were difficult to escape from.
