Div A

Blackpool 1 v Preston 2  3-2

Blackpool took a step nearer the title with this win over last season's champions.  Good wins by Darryl Wolstencroft and Neil Coward plus solid draws by Michael Parker and Steve Lamb carried the day.

Blackpool 1 v Preston 1  2-3

This "clash of the giants" produced a nail-biting match with Blackpool only requiring a draw to take the title from Preston 2 - but it was not to be.  Despite a brilliant win by Darryl Wolstencroft over Brett Lund and two fighting draws by Michael Parker and Andy Jaques, Blackpool lost by a narrow margin.

For Blackpool, Andy Jaques gained a two pawn advantage but could not convert it to a win because of serious time trouble - he had to settle for a draw against Bob Taylor.

Neil Coward outplayed Cliff Rutlidge in the early part of the game but took a wrong line of play and ultimately lost.

Mike Parker was a pawn up but could not convert it with bishops of opposite colours so a draw was agreed with Dave Andrews.

All therefore rests on Blackpool's final game of the season against Lytham Ex 1 which is due to be played on 16 March.  A draw will be sufficient to give Blackpool the title as they have a superior board difference to Preston 2.

Div B

Lytham Ex 3 v Lytham Ex 2  1½-2½

Lytham Ex 2 have put their marker on the title with this win over their third string.  Leo Ainsworth has now won all his five games and Doug Williams is unbeaten after four outings.

Morecambe v Poulton 1  2-2

This was a bad result for both teams as it leaves Lytham Ex 2 well ahead at the top of the table.

For Poulton, Ken Gorman is having one of his best seasons of recent times as he is still unbeaten after four outings.  Oleg Cukovs showed that he has fully recovered from his recent poor form by turning the tables on one of the division's best players, Phil Seery.

Div C

Preston 3 v Bispham  3-1

Preston 3 continue to steam roller the opposition.  Bispham's Blaine McGrady continues his unbeaten run for the season.

For Preston, Geoff Pennington has lost only once in seven outings.  Kenny Quinn has had six wins and only one loss.  Dave Skidmore has won all his four games.
