Division A
Preston 1 v Lytham Ex 1 2½ - 2½
After defeating Preston's first team 3½-1½ Lytham were confident about their prospects against the second string. However, they suffered a last minute shock in that Phil Raynor was taken ill with a dose of the flu and Lytham's third team captain, Keith Sansom, had to come in as a last minute replacement. He gave a good account of himself but lost to the much improved Kenny Quinn.
The remaining games all went the full distance and had to be decided during the quickplay finish. Lytham's Doug Williams was unable to make much headway against Cliff Rutlidge and a draw was agreed. Peter Jowett, Lytham's top board, was in trouble against Malcolm Peacock who was beginning to run out of time so a draw was agreed. Lytham's Captain, John Cooper, won a pawn in his game with Phil Taylor, the Preston Captain, but Taylor defended soundly and won back a pawn. In a time scramble both players agreed a draw. Fortunately for Lytham, veteran Leo Ainsworth scored the full point against Robert Hanson.
Division B
Blackpool 2 v Lytham Ex 2 3 - 1
Blackpool 2 scored their first win of the season. Both teams were at full strength - Blackpool's two bottom boards took the full points - Jon Wright and Dennis Davies.
Preston 3 v Morecambe 0 - 4
There was a wide gap in the grading points, particularly the top boards. 170 is a colossal difference. Preston suffered a whitewash such that Morecambe now head the table. Morecambe's Captain, Norman Blade, is unbeaten so far this season: after five outings he has four wins and a draw under his belt.
Division C
Lytham Ex 4 v Poulton 2 1 - 3
Poulton, unbeaten after five outings, head the table deservedly. Chris McConnachie, the Captain, won his fifth successive game.
Poulton 2 v Bispham 4 - 0
Poulton 2 continued to pile up the points.
Poulton 2 v Poulton 3 4 - 0
Another overpowering performance for the Poulton second team.
