Blackpool v Preston  4-4

Blackpool's bottom four boards scored 3 out of 4 but this was not enough:  Preston reigned supreme on the top boards.  After a very tense match the score finished at 4-4 so the result was decided on board count which left Preston the winners for the fourth successive year.

Lytham Ex 2 v Bispham  4½-3½

This was a very close contest - Lytham's Captain, Geoff Robinson, scored the extra half point needed for victory.

Poulton v Lytham Ex 2

The difference in grading points required Poulton to win by at least 5-3.  In a very close and hard fought match, Poulton just scraped through by the required margin.

On top board, Lynne Morrison had the advantage in both of her games with George Ellison but gradually lost the initiative to George's stubborn tactics and lost.

On board 2, Poulton's Dave Hartley had inferior positions in both of his games with Pat Coleman but played the end games well to take one and a half points.

On board 3, in the first game Herbert Sowerby lost his queen early on:  surprisingly he complicated in order to win back the material and the game.  Their second game was deservedly won by Geoff Robinson who won a piece early on and the game.

On board 4, Allan Wilson gained the best Lytham result by winning one and a half points in his encounters with Colin Duerden.  Colin's draw from a difficult position gave Poulton the half point they needed to clinch the match.
